'Indoor Light', oil on board, 20 x 25cm, 2025
The painting is based on a found photo from the old indoor market in Preston, which has since been demolished.
Sarah Grant's work explores the potential for painting to hold psychological space, by drawing on objects of memory or charged association. The gestures are fleeting moments, cropped details from polaroid photographs or found imagery which convey a sense of temporality. She is fascinated by questions of perception and reality, informed by her meditation practice over 20 years and her work as an art therapist.
Sarah Grant is originally from Leeds and graduated in Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 2000. She exhibited regularly as a member of Glasgow Independent Studios, Trongate 103 Arts Centre. Her paintings are small in scale and she often creates work in series which form part of a bigger narrative. She completed an MFA in Painting at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2024 and has returned to live in the North of England as a member of The Birley Studios Preston.
